Only authorized personnel have access to your Personal Information and we do not release your Personal Information to third parties other than those third parties that are necessary to satisfy the Purposes (as defined below) for which the Personal Information was collected, including third-party service providers. While we cannot guarantee that errors, loss or unauthorized access to your Personal Information will not occur, our procedures and systems are designed to protect your Personal Information from such events.

Personal Information.
Personal information means any information about an identifiable individual, including personal health information. This may include, but is not limited to, your name, address, email, telephone number, demographic information such as age and gender, survey information/responses, site registrations including usernames and passwords, health or patient information that you provide, including when you register on the Site or when you contact us with feedback, an inquiry, complaint or adverse event report, or any other information which might reasonably be used to identify you individually (collectively “Personal Information”).
Except as otherwise described in this Privacy Statement, Astellas may collect Personal Information from you only when it is voluntarily provided. If you do not want your Personal Information collected, do not provide it to us. If you are providing anyone else’s Personal Information, you are responsible for obtaining their consent to the disclosure of their information, as may be required by law.
We may collect your Personal Information and use it for the following purposes:
(collectively, the “Purposes”).
Except as set out above and in the section entitled “Disclosure to third parties,” Personal Information will not be sold, rented or exchanged with unaffiliated entities unless you are first notified and consent to such transfer.
We will interact with you in many ways and these interactions often have different business purposes. The legal basis under which we process your Personal Information depends on the Personal Information categories we are processing about you and the specific business purposes for which we are processing it.
Non-identifiable information.
Information that is de-identified and/or aggregated and cannot be associated with an identifiable individual is not considered to be Personal Information.
Astellas does not set “cookies” for this Site or collect any information via the use of bits of information deposited in the visitor’s computer.
However, the Astellas web server captures the Internet Protocol (IP) addresses of each connection to this Site and the specific web pages visited during that connection. An IP address is a number assigned to your computer by your Internet Service Provider so you can access the Internet and is generally considered to be non-personally identifiable information because in most cases it changes each time you connect to the Internet. IP addresses may be used to diagnose problems with our server, report aggregate information, determine the fastest route for your computer to use in connecting to the Site, and administer and improve the Site. Although the IP address and related information collected is stored in the server log files, no individual is authorized to access those files for any purpose other than system maintenance or administration. We may also use this information to help improve our website and our services by better understanding our audience. Astellas or its third-party analytics service providers (e.g. Google) may also collect non-identifiable information in aggregate form to track data such as the total number of visits to our websites, the number of visitors to each page of our websites, and the domain names of our visitors’ Internet service providers. We may use this information, which remains in aggregate form, to understand how our visitors use our websites so that we may make the sites better.
Astellas may disclose your Personal Information to third-party service providers who provide us with various business services, including hosting, monitoring and maintaining the Site, customer service, and preparing newsletters and mailings etc. We may also share your Personal Information with other affiliates within our group of companies, in compliance with applicable laws. If we allow third-party service providers to have access to your personal information, they will only be permitted to access it or use it for purposes that are consistent with this Privacy Statement.
In addition, we may disclose your Personal Information to government authorities or third-party organizations as permitted or required by applicable law, including when we have a reason to believe that such disclosure is necessary to identify, contact, or bring a legal action against someone who may be causing injury to or interference with our rights and property or those of any other person. We may also disclose your Personal Information when we believe the law requires it and in any situation that involves threats to any person’s physical safety.
If all or part of Astellas is merged into another entity or if Astellas is involved in another situation involving the transfer of some or all of our business assets, the information we have about you may be transferred to a third-party as part of the negotiation or completion of that transaction. In the event the transaction is completed, your Personal Information will remain protected by applicable privacy laws. In the event the transaction is not completed, we will require the other party not to use or disclose your Personal Information in any manner whatsoever and to delete such information, unless legally required to maintain copies.
The Site content, applications and services are intended for adult users over the age of 18. Astellas does not knowingly collect any Personal Information from children under 18 years old through this Site. However, if the parent or guardian of a child under 18 believes that the child has provided us with Personal Information, the parent or guardian of that child should contact us at APCA_Privacy.Commission@Astellas.com if they want this information deleted from our files. Anyone under 18 years old should seek their parent’s or guardian’s permission prior to using or disclosing any Personal Information on this Site.
Astellas takes reasonable steps to protect your Personal Information as it is transmitted from your computer to our Site and to protect your information from loss, misuse and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration or destruction. All information transmitted to this Site is secure to the extent possible using industry standard technology. You should keep in mind, however, that no Internet transmission is ever 100% secure or error-free. In particular, email sent to or from this Site may not be secure, and you should therefore take special care in deciding what information you send to us via email. Moreover, where you use passwords, ID numbers, or other special access features on this Site, it is your responsibility to safeguard them.
Consent.
We need to get your consent before obtaining or using Personal Information, or disclosing such Personal Information to anyone, unless otherwise permitted or required by applicable law. By using this Site and providing your Personal Information, you are consenting to our use of your Personal Information for the Purposes. You can withdraw this consent whenever you want, unless legal requirements prevent this. Let us know if you do not want us to use your Personal Information in any particular way, including uses described in this Privacy Statement by contacting Astellas’ Privacy Officer at APCA_Privacy.Commission@Astellas.com.
Access, Corrections.
At any time, upon reasonable notice, you can access your Personal Information held by Astellas and request corrections to it using the contact details provided at the beginning of this Statement. Subject to legal requirements, we will comply with your request as soon as we are able to do so. We rely on you to provide us with your complete, accurate and current information. We may request certain personal information for the purposes of verifying the identity of an individual seeking access or correction to their personal information records.
Retention.
Personal information will be retained only as long as necessary for the fulfilment of the purposes for which it was collected and for which consent was received, unless otherwise required by law. Personal information that is no longer required to fulfil the identified purposes will be destroyed, erased or made anonymous. Astellas has developed and implemented detailed retention principles, and will ensure destruction of Personal Information in a method that prevents improper access.
